Eli Manning: Will he or won’t he (miss any games)?

Filed under: Footballguys, NFC East, NFL, News, Fantasy, QB, Injury, Giants — Jason Wood @ 11:33 am

Someone is wrong, we know that much.

Yesterday, there was a mild storm of PR controversy over the health of Eli Manning’s shoulder. Chris Mortensen said he had a partially separated shoulder and would miss “about a month.” Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning both outright denied Mort’s contention and said he’s “day to day.” Yet, curiously, Manning is heading to Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion.

So who is right? And as fantasy owners, what do we do?

The great thing about the new injury report is we’ll know whether Manning participates in Wednesday, Thursday and Friday practices. Based on his potential value to the franchise, I would assume they err on the side of caution and sit Manning this week, but that’s just my gut call.

Also, let’s see what the Giants front office does. If they stand pat with Jared “Pillsbury Throwboy” Lorenzen as the team’s starter, it’s safe to say that the team doctors are confident in a speedy return for Manning. But if the Giants go out and trade for a veteran QB, or perhaps sign someone like Aaron Brooks or Byron Leftwich, then I think you have to start wondering whether Mort isn’t scooping everyone and/or Manning and Coughlin aren’t intentionally misleading us.
